Mt. Province still out of power, works underway

Mountain Province, Philippines – Assessment and line clearing works are currently being done by the personnel of the Mountain Province Electric Cooperative (MOPRECO). This is to solve the power outage being experienced in the province and other areas covered by the cooperative.

Electricity was restored in Mountain Province on Wednesday night but due to continues strong winds and rains, the province has again experienced a power outage since yesterday.

Out of the six provinces and two cities in the Cordillera Region, Mountain Province is the sole area which is yet to have their electricity. This was told by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) via the Philippine News Agency today, November 13,2020.

According to Melma Batario, NGCP’s regional communications, and public affairs officer, the Mankayan-Sagada 69-kilovolt (kV) line remains de-energized due to reported leaning and toppled structures.

Affected in MOPRECO’s franchise areas are the entire Mountain Province, parts of Cervantes and Quirino in Ilocos Sur, and parts of Tinglayan in Kalinga.

In a message made by Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan on Thursday, November 12, he told that DRRMOs and Municipal LGUs are assisting MOPRECO personnel in their line clearing activities in view to restore the electric power through clearing trees and other debris affecting the power lines in the province.

He then advised his constituents to assume that downed power lines are live to avoid electric shocks or electrocution as most individuals cannot tell whether or not a power line is energized.

In the latest update by MOPRECO, personnel are now doing repairs on damaged lines at Barangays Mauwey and Mabaay at the Municipality of Bauko.
