Naneng and Magnao-Guilayon sub-tribes peace negotiation continues

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A continuous peace negotiation is being undertaken between Naneng and Magnao-Guilayon sub-tribes to assure that peace and harmonious relationship shall continue to exist among its people after several incidents disturbed the peace between the two.

The recent incident being mended was the shooting incident that led to the death of Denver Tubban and the hospitalization of Jemer Ewad. The suspect hails from Naneng sub-tribe.

In their recent meeting, the Magnao-Guilayon sub-tribe brought out several cases which they considered as still ‘unsolved’ since the other sub-tribe has yet to comply the conditions in the settlement agreement.

According to Emmanuel Abadilla, Secretary of the Provincial Bodong Council of Elders (PBCE), they shall convene again together with the elders and officials of the concerned tribes on Monday, June 14, 2021, to resolve the cases.

“Ada ti lima a kaso a dati na-settle kanun ngem haan a tinungpal ti Naneng diay settlement agreement da according to Magnao, isu ti isimsimpa pay dagitoy members iti PBCE ta no malpas santo mapan idiay latest case,” Abadilla disclosed in an interview.

As recalled, five barangay captains from Upper Tabuk and members of Naneng sub-tribe which include Naneng, Bantay, Lucog, Dupag and Bagumbayan, through a letter, requested for the PBCE to mediate for a peace negotiation between them and the Magnao-Guilayon sub-tribe.

As one of their functions is to address issues and concerns regarding tribal conflicts, land disputes and other Bodong-related cases referred, PBCE immediately responded to the case.

Duties and functions of the council, Kalinga PIO said, are mediations and negotiations on amicable settlement of different cases for both binodngan and non-binodngan, carry out other peace–related activities and to help implement programs of the provincial government on Peace and Order particularly in the implementation and observance of lawfully-accepted indigenous customs, traditions and practices of the indigenous people of Kalinga.
