National Museum-Cordillera wins international award

Kiangan, Ifugao –The National Museum-Cordillera in Kiangan, Ifugao gained international recognition from the Center for Intangible Cultural Studies (CICS) of South Korea through their efforts of practicing effective models in preserving culture.


A press release of the organization on Monday, October 24, said the award was conferred by the Jeonju International Awards for Promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage (JIAPICH) – an international event for culture bearers, groups, researchers, non-government organization,s and individuals pushing for cultural heritage transmission.


The award was received by NMP-Cordillera Supervising Administrative Officer Eulalie Dulnuan and Information Officer III Leticia Lagayan during the recently concluded 2022 JIAPICH awarding ceremonies held at the National Intangible Heritage Center in Jeonju City, South Korea.

The award was likewise given to Serfenta Association, a Polish-accredited UNESCO NGO, and Ms. Anka Raic, an expert on socio-cultural practices from Bosnia and Herzegovina in Europe.


They were chosen as the winners among 36 entries submitted to the body and assessed by an international jury of UNESCO and other Intangible Cultural Heritage experts.


The National Museum-Cordillera said their winning entry featured various activities of the organization designed of preserving intangible cultural heritage which include the HANDI Tours in 2020, video-documentary production in 2021, lecture demonstrations on textile weaving and basketry, Rice Wine Brewing and Yeast making, and producing feature articles on social media.


With the award, the organization commits ‘to expand its museum activities by providing more innovative learning opportunities anchored on cultural preservation to realize a more meaningful museum education.’
