Tabuk City, Kalinga – As investigation on the death of Coast Guard Apprentice Seaman Mori Caguay progresses, his batchmates were recently summoned by the National Bureau of Investigation.

Caguay who was from Tabuk City died due to loss of oxygen supply to the brain as a result of drowning, based on the autopsy done by the NBI.

The apprentice seaman lost consciousness during the Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) training held in Cavite on November 16, 2023.

He was brought to the hospital where he was declared brain dead and was comatose for four days before passing away on the evening of November 20.

As the NBI further probes the incident, they called four of Caguay’s fellow trainees who were with him when the drowning happened.

The four who were summoned to give their statements were accompanied by lawyers from the Philippine Coast Guard.

The PCG has earlier stated that if their personnel involved in the incident were found liable, they will be punished through the Coast Guard's prevailing laws and regulations.
