Nearly half million men in Cordillera are single – PSA

Updated: Feb 19

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Why are there more single men than women in Cordillera? Here is what the Philippine Statistics Authority says.

According to the agency’s latest data, there are 913,000 people who are yet to be married in the region, and 54% or 493,020 of the figure are men.

Citing data triangulation during his interview with Bombo Radyo Baguio, Aldrin Bahit Jr., Chief Statistical Specialist, explained that one of the reasons why a number of men in the Cordillera are single is that more women are educated.

He mentioned that 7 out of 10 college graduates in the region are women.

“So kasla ngay nga nu makitkita gamin, when we talk about settling down, to have a family, adda gamin iti ego dagiti lallaki nga they’re supposed to be the one taking care of the family,” he said.

He added that men could either get insecure or shy in pursuing a woman with higher educational attainment and more stability than them, which is why they have to delay settling down as they have to stabilize their career and financial status first.

Regarding social factors, Bahit conveyed that the diffident and unexpressive personality of Cordilleran men could be a factor.
