NEDA-CAR Director recognizes Kalinga for its support to CAR autonomy

Tabuk City, Kalinga − National Economic and Development Authority - Cordillera Director recognized the efforts and support of the Province of Kalinga in the continuous quest for Autonomous Region of Cordillera, expressing confidence that the region will succeed in its bid for self-governance.

During the Cordillera Autonomy Regional Summit culminating activity at Kalinga Astrodome on November 4, Regional Director Susan Sumbeling underscored the Cordillerans’ overall awareness and potential ‘yes’ votes for autonomy have increased from 2015.

Citing preliminary data from the 2021 Pulse Survey conducted to assess the Cordillerans’ pulse in terms of awareness, understanding and support for the autonomy advocacy, Sumbeling noted that the survey indicated a consistent 64% level of awareness in the Province of Kalinga in 2021.

Sumbeling, who is also the Vice Chairperson of the Regional Development Council – Cordillera, admitted the need to reach far-flung areas to educate people on importance of autonomy, saying among their initiatives in the advocacy is conducting information education campaigns at the grassroots level and engaging the youth.

“We remain steadfast in stirring the essence of our program in collaboration with all the regional autonomy stakeholders from the national and local government, the private sector, civil society, and the grassroots,” affirmed Sumbeling.
