NIA Cordillera to sell rice at P29 per kilo this September 13

La Trinidad, Benguet – True to their words, the National Irrigation Administration – Cordillera will be launching on September 13, the Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka Rice – a rice produced through the contract farming program of the government.


The launching will coincide with the Kadiwa ng Pangulo activity at the NIA Grounds in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet.


As earlier announced, said rice shall be sold at P29 per kilogram but packed in a 10-kilogram sack.


The agency shall prioritizes buyers who are part of the vulnerable sector. These include members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), elderlies, physically challenged individuals, and solo parents.


To avail of said P29 per kilo rice, individuals belonging to said sector should bring with them documents proving their identity, which include senior citizen’s ID, PWD ID, Solo parent ID and 4Ps ID.


When paying, they will be given a stub which they can utilize in claiming the rice they bought at the releasing area.


As relayed by NIA-Cordillera, the rice to be sold during the event came from the first harvest of irrigators who agreed to be part of the contract farming program.


Particularly, these came from irrigators who are members of 18 irrigator-associations in Kalinga and Apayao.


As contained in the agreement, NIA CAR shall provide an initial P50,000 worth of farm inputs and cash for a one-hectare field in a cropping season for said farmers and when harvest time comes, they shall be compensated with P50,000 each for 5 tons of fresh palay per hectare.


The palay shall then be milled and will be sold at KADIWA stores.


Aside from Benguet, other provinces in the region shall soon benefit from the Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka Rice.
