‘NO MECQ for Baguio City’ - Magalong

Baguio City, Philippines –Mayor Benjamin Magalong argued it is not needed for the City to be placed under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine, a stricter level of mobility control.

Baguio City is currently under General Community Quarantine status.

According to the mayor, shifting into MECQ quarantine status is not needed as the Covid-19 cases in the city is still manageable and systems are still in place, aggressive testing being done, and contact tracing having high efficiency rate.

“No. we don’t. Kaya naman natin. Nakikita naman na bumababa na yung kaso natin by almost 50 percent so we can manage, and besides we all have these system in place,” he said when asked by a reporter if he is to recommend the city to shift into MECQ .

“Sa atin we are very aggressive sa testing, mataas pa rin yung ating contact tracing efficiency rate and then we have all these facilities. We are preparing and very proactive. May foresight tayo rito, so we don't need to shift to MECQ,” he added.

The city, as of this writing, has a total record of 11, 309 Covid-19 cases. 1, 013 are active, while 10, 087 have recovered.

Earlier, the provinces of Apayao and Benguet have been shifted back to MECQ from May 10 to 23, 2021 as the virus continues to threaten lives and livelihoods in the areas and upon recommendation of the Screening and Validation Committee.

The recommendation for the reclassification of the two provinces is based on the criticality of the Covid-19 situation in said areas.
