Baguio City, Philippines – Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong clarified that ‘there is no political agenda’ involved in his campaign against corruption.

The mayor declared this during the PNP’s flag-raising ceremony earlier this month.

Magalong is known for his ‘good governance’ advocacy. He used to urge other officials to quit corrupt practices and that they should be ‘passionate’ about what they are supposed to do as public servants.

In his speech during said activity, the mayor emphasized that his actions against corruption is only intended for the future generation and had nothing to do with politics.

“There is no political agenda. The motivation here is the legacy that we can pass on to the next generation. It’s about time to champion our campaign against corruption and really promote and advocate good governance”, he said.

He then hoped that people would rally behind his advocacy and raise awareness about corruption's link to poverty.

“People should be made aware of the ill effects of corruption and its direct correlation with poverty and reduced income. The poor are the most affected. Hopefully, it will become a movement”, he stated.

Further, in his interview with News 5, the mayor said that it is time for people to ‘demand good governance from their political leaders’.

“Nakikita ko talaga na grabe na ‘yung corruption and it’s about time people should demand good governance from their political leaders. Hindi pwedeng tahimik tayo”, he conveyed.
