Baguio City, Philippines – Public Utility Jeepneys in the Cordillera continue to operate amidst weeklong transport strike in the country.

The ‘Tigil-pasada’ is a nation-wide protest by jeepney groups in relation to the implementation of the Public Utility Vehicle modernization program of the government. Said strike started on March 6 and will run until March 12.

On Monday, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board(LTFRB) Cordillera informed there is no indication of ‘Tigil-pasada’ in the region during the first day of the nationwide strike.

“Patuloy ang isinasagawang operasyon at koordinasyon ng LTFRB sa iba’t ibang konektadong ahensiya upang tiyakin na may sapat na sasakyan ang mga mananakay sa rehion,” the agency wrote, thanking the different public transport group in the Cordillera for not joining in the protest.

The Baguio City police mobiles, meanwhile, are on standby to give free rides to commuters should there be a strike in the city. Although, at least 16 jeepney groups in Baguio City has earlier conveyed they are not going to take part in the ‘Tigil-pasada’.
