Rebel killed in Balbalan armed encounter

Balbalan, Kalinga – A clash between the government forces and the Communist Terrorist Group in Balbalan has once again taken another life on Wednesday afternoon, May 3, 2023.

This is the third casualty reported from the series of armed encounter in the Municipality of Balbalan since March this year.

According to 5th Infantry Division, the latest fatality was discovered after a gunfight between the 50th Infantry Battalion and around 20 members of the Komiteng Larangang Gerilya Baggas, Ilocos Cordillera Regional Committee around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Sitio Angod in Barangay Poswoy.

The identity of the slain rebel is yet to be established by the authorities as his remains is yet to be brought to Poblacion, Balbalan, 5th ID Spokesperson, Captain Rigor Pamittan told GURU Press Cordillera.

The M16 rifle recovered from the site was taken by the government troops who were unharmed in the encounter.
