NPA killed in 5-minute gunfight with army in Abra

Abra, Philippines – Another member of the New People’s Army operating in Abra died in a gunfight, 10 days after the death of his fellow rebel in the province.

5th Infantry Division announced Friday that soldiers of the 77th Infantry Battalion had encountered members of the Kilusang Larangang Guerilla(KLG) North Abra past 8:00 a.m. this Oct. 13, 2023 at the mountainous part of Buneg, Lacub, Abra.

This resulted in a firefight between the two groups that lasted for about 5 minutes.

Unfortunately, one of the rebels got killed in the exchange of fire. He was described to be a male but his identity is yet to be established by the authorities.

Apart from the dead body of the slain cadre, an M16 rifle was likewise recovered from the encounter site.

The government troops are still on clearing operations in the area while police authorities and other military units were alerted for checkpoint operations and blocking positions, respectively.

It could be recalled that last week, Oct. 03, a member of the KLG North Abra died in an armed encounter with the military at Sitio Lamunan, Barangay Gacab, Malibcong.
