1 NPA killed, 1 soldier injured in Cagayan gun battle


Cagayan, Philippines – A suspected rebel was killed, and a soldier was injured in an armed encounter between the military and the rebels in Gonzaga, Cagayan, on Friday.

 

Information from the 5th Infantry Division revealed that a firefight occurred between the Komiteng Rehiyon Cagayan Valley and the 502nd Infantry Brigade around noon on February 23 in Sitio Laoc, Pateng.

 

The 10-minute exchange of fire between the two groups claimed the life of a rebel and resulted in the injury of a soldier. The casualty’s identity is yet to be established by the authorities, while the wounded troop is now in stable condition.


Meanwhile, government troops recovered a piece of M14 rifle with a magazine and ammunition, 6 rifle grenades, documents, and personal belongings believed to be owned by the CTG group they encountered at the site.

 

Another encounter in Abra

 

Five hours after the encounter in Cagayan, another firefight between the rebels and the government force transpired in Naguilian, Sallapadan, Abra.

 

The gunfight between the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla North Abra and the 50th Infantry Battalion lasted for ten minutes.

 

No one was reported hurt on the military side, while injuries on the part of the rebels are still being verified.
