NPA member killed in Balbalan clash

Balbalan, Kalinga – A New People’s Army rebel was killed in a 10-minute clash with troops of the 50th Infantry Battalion at Sitio Babacong in Gawaan village, Balbalan on Thursday afternoon, March 09, 2023.

In a statement, the 5th Infantry Division reported the troops were informed by residents of the presence of the terrorist group in the area.

The 503rd Infantry Brigade immediately launched a security operation with its battalions and later found that the rebels were planning their move against the government.

The 50IB engaged in a firefight with around 15 members of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla – Baggas and Regional Sentro De Gravidad-Ilocos Cordillera Regional Committee, resulting in the death of one rebel.

After the gunfight, the army recovered one M653, one M16 firearm, five backpacks, and subversive documents. Also recovered were five bunkers of the terrorist groups.

To recall, soldiers sacrificed their lives to protect the public against the rebels last year.
