NPA with multiple arrest warrants, 4 other rebels arrested in Cagayan

Cagayan, Philippines – A suspected rebel facing multiple arrest warrants along with his 4 comrades was arrested following an armed encounter in Sto. Niño, Cagayan yesterday, August 31, 2023.


The five are believed to be among the 13 members of the New People’s Army who clashed with personnel of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion who were then on patrol, Cagayan Provincial Information Office reported.

The gunfire between the two groups lasted for 10 minutes.


After the encounter, the police caught the five suspects identified to be Edwin Callueng alyas ‘Happy’, Aiza Antonio aka ‘Ka Mira’, Ramil Andam, Alvin Andam, and Jayson Melad.


Alyas ‘Happy’ is reportedly included in the list of Periodic Status Report of Threat Group for first quarter of 2023. He is said to have 5 arrest warrants for attempted murder; 3 counts of illegal possession, manufacture, acquisition of fire arms, ammunitions or explosives; and violation of the anti-terrorism act of 2020.


‘Ka Mira’, on the other hand, was identified by the authorities as a medical officer of their group.


While the four were brought to police custody, ‘Happy’ was rushed to a hospital in Tuguegarao City due to the injuries he sustained from the encounter.


No one was harmed on the side of the police during the armed clash.
