‘Nu han nga masilawan ti puso ken panunut tayo, awan ti progreso’- Balbalan Mayor Malannag

Updated: Dec 6, 2023

Balbalan, Kalinga – As he led the local government unit in bringing the holiday spirit to the people of Balbalan on a drizzly Friday evening, Mayor Almar Malannag encouraged reflection on the significance of the tree lighting.

Balbalan joined the nation in marking the beginning of the festive season with its cherished Christmas tree lighting ceremony which has become a tradition under Malannag administration. From calling the special event “Pasilaw” last year, the LGU termed this year’s activity “Tanggaw di iBalbalan.”

The local term “tanggaw” means “light” and beyond the glittering lights, the celebration, at its core, has a profound significance.

To Mayor Malannag, just like the Christmas string lights, the public’s mind and heart shall be enlightened to uplift and empower one another, thus contributing to the development not just within the community but to the whole municipality as well.

“Before nga i-celebrate [tayo] ti Christmas, kailangan nga masilawan ti panunut ken puso ti tunggal maysa kadatayo. Ti silaw, isu ti maysa nga importante ti maysa nga munisipyo… Nu haan nga masilawan ti puso ken panunut tayo, sayang ti munisipyo iti Balbalan… Nu awan ti silaw, awan ti progress and development, awan ti Balbalan,” Malannag underscored, relating that without light, people cannot work.

The mayor then enjoined his constituents to keep the true meaning of this joyous time by engaging in acts of kindness and being part of a heart-warming story of giving, hope, and meaningful celebration.
