Oct. 6 declared holiday in Mt. Province for IPs Day

Mt. Province, Philippines – Malacañang declared Oct. 06, 2023, which falls on Friday, as a special non-working day in observance of the Provincial Indigenous People’s Day.

The holiday is contained in Proclamation No. 348 signed in September by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin by the authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.


“It is but fitting and proper that the people of Mountain Province be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” the proclamation read.


The province has yet to release their activities for this year’s event.


Last year, Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr. that the Provincial Indigenous People’s Day is a “chance to raise our awareness on the rights of IPs as enumerated in the IPRA Law and for us to be reminded of our role in protecting these rights.”
