Old man killed after tire exploded in vulcanizing shop in Camalaniugan, Cagayan

Camalaniugan, Cagayan – An elderly was killed after a large tire exploded in a vulcanizing shop in Luec, Camalaniugan, Cagayan morning of Tuesday, June 18.

 

Authorities disclosed that the incident is the first of its kind that happened in the municipality.

 

In their investigation, based on accounts of witnesses, the elderly was at the shop for his motorcycle’s tire to be reinflated.


While waiting, he decided to watch a mechanic who was in the process of reinflating a large tire, from that of a trailer truck.

 

However, while the man was working on the tire, something went wrong and it exploded.

 

The debris of the tire called ‘rim’ directly hit the victim’s leg fatally injuring him. The roof of the vulcanizing shop, including the windows of the structure connected to it was also damaged due to the explosion.

 

The victim was named as Demi Balianca, 67, a barangay official in Lallo, Cagayan.

 

Rescue officers promptly transported him to a nearby medical facility but he was declared dead on arrival.

 

The mechanic identified as Edison Garcia, 44 and a resident of Camalaniugan, is now under police custody.

 

An inquest proceeding was already conducted on Wednesday, June 19 and the case was already referred to the fiscal’s office.

 

If the case will not be settled amicably, the mechanic will be facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.
