Tinglayan, Kalinga – Even not getting the top prize, the municipality of Tinglayan once again shined in the Provincial Search for Healthy Barangay for 2023.
A back-to-back winner of said search in 2020 and 2021, the municipality is still lucky for this year’s competition after one of its barangays ranked third.
The contest, which is annually conducted by the Provincial Health Office, is aimed at fostering community involvement in matters of public health and, as a result, rewarding the achievements of the best-performing communities.
Old Tinglayan, one of the barangays of the municipality, entered the top 3 following their non-ending efforts to maintain cleanliness and a healthy lifestyle.
They were then awarded a P40,000 cash prize and a plaque which was handed over to them on Wednesday, August 2, at the Children’s Wellness Center, KPH Compound, Bulanao, Tabuk City.
“This achievement substantiates the relentless hard work of the Municipality of Tinglayan to transform all of its 20 barangays into recognized healthy barangays in the province,” the local government stated.
To recall, the municipality, since 2016, has been working for a cleaner and healthier Tinglayan, backed by the launching of the ‘Pumor-asan’ program - a banner program of the current administration promoting ecological solid waste management.
This program aims to promote cleanliness and a healthy lifestyle in the municipality through continuous information education campaigns, proper waste segregation, practice of 3Rs (reuse, reduce and recycle), beautification and green development.
Since the program was launched, it has allowed the municipality to dominate the search for healthy barangays in the province, having earned the top recognition for 2020 and 2021 through barangays Ambato, Luplupa, and Poblacion.
In a statement, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab said the local government will further intensify its efforts in the promotion of ecological solid waste management programs for a cleaner, greener, and healthier Tinglayan.
This, he added will also back the aspiration of the local government to a more progressive Tinglayan.
Meantime, the LGU commends the efforts of Tinglayans who represented the municipality in some other contested activities during the Provincial Nutrition Month celebration.
They are Franzine Banao, Jea Fe Ayangao, Happy Paclay, Teacher Jessie Cosme, Reman Agya,o and Breanna Agpad, who were all consolation prize winners.
