Olympian Hergie Bacyadan receives P.5M from Kalinga Provincial Government

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Hergie Bacyadan, the first iKalinga Olympian, did not just receive a warm welcome from his ‘kailyans’, he also got a cash incentive from the Kalinga provincial government.

Monday, September 9, the Province of Kalinga held its first-ever Hero’s Welcome for an iKalinga athlete. The event was initiated by the provincial government through Governor James Edduba’s leadership to pay tribute to Bacyadan.

Bacyadan of Taloctoc, Tanudan is one of the Philippine team members who represented the country in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Although he fell short to China’s top seed in the 75kg women's match last July 31, Kalinga is elated and proud by his mere attendance and qualification to one of the biggest sporting events in the world, the Olympics.

To celebrate Bacyadan, a motorcade was held for him in Bulanao, where the iKalingas especially the students were treated to a photo opportunity with him.

After said activity, the Officialdom of Kalinga led by Governor Edduba awarded a P500,000 cash incentive to the iKalinga first Olympian. This was made possible through Resolution No. 2024-222 which was submitted and approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Provincial Human Resource Officer Grace Kidang-Flores explained that the Hero’s Welcome was pushed to recognize Bacyadan’s inspiring journey and spirit of determination

“By highlighting Hergie’s success, we aim to showcase the extraordinary talent emerging from Kalinga and inspire future generations to reach for their dreams with the same fervor and commitment,” she said.
