La Trinidad, Benguet - It was an easy job for Cordilleran fighter Carlos “Limitless” Alvarez as he defeated in the very first round his Japanese opponent during their ONE Championship clash on March 21 at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Representing the famous Team Lakay, Alvarez faced Seiya Matsuda of Japan in the featherweight mixed martial arts bout.

During their fight, Alvarez’s grappling skills outlasted Matsuda, putting him to sleep through an  “anaconda choke”. The official was prompted to stop the fight just 17 seconds into the first round upon noticing that Matsuda was no longer able to fight back after passing out from the choke.

With his stellar performance, Alvarez was awarded a $10,000 bonus by ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

Following his victory in the specific event, Alvarez now holds a 6-wins and 1-loss MMA record while maintaining his “high” finishing rate. If he wins just one more fight, according to ONE Championship, he will secure a $100,000 contract and a coveted spot on the sport’s main roster.

“I'm still overwhelmed about the outcome of my fight last night. Even for me it was unreal, but the source of my strength and courage is the real LIMITLESS, our God and Savior Jesus Christ,” the 25-year-old Igorot fighter wrote on his Facebook page after his win.
