ONE MORE time, Baguio dominates ‘Batang Pinoy National Championships’

Baguio City, Philippines – Baguio City dominated once again the Batang Pinoy National Championships as the event ended Wednesday, December 21, 2022.

Baguio was the overall champion in 2018 and 2019.

The team composed of 148 players was able to collect a total of 100 medals - 31 gold, 30 silver, and 39 bronze, according to Baguio City Public Information Office.

Next in rank is Laguna with a total of 41 medals.

With Baguio’s triumph as champion, the team was awarded the over-all-champion trophy, P3 million cash prize from the Philippine National Commission, and two "Pursigido" Awards from Milo.

The city government is expected to grant cash incentives to players who won medals from the competition.

“Everyone (from PSC, NSAs, City Government, Sports Office, DepEd, local sports associations and clubs, coaches, trainers, supporters, parents, and most especially to our young athletes) who have been part of Batang Pinoy Team Baguio) deserves these awards," City Sports Division Head Gaudencio Gonzales said in a statement.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, meantime, extended his felicitation to the coaches, athletes, and their parents.

"Massive congratulations to our athletes, coaches, parents and all those instrumental in retaining our Batang Pinoy crown. You nailed it. Cheers!” the mayor stated.
