Baguio City, Philippines – Supporters of ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio and Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang will now have a chance to watch the athletes not only in the martial arts arena but also in film.

Pacio and Adiwang were cast to play as ‘brave guerillas’ in the film “1941: Cordillera iti Ima ti Gubat,” expected to be released as entry to the Cannes Film Festival upon completion.

The annual Cannes Film Festival held in Cannes, France previews new films of all genres, including documentaries from all around the world.

The movie portrays the events and life of Cordilleras during the Japanese invasion in 1941. Its production ‘aims to support the local talents and show Cordilleran culture on the big screen internationally.’

During the press conference in July, it was revealed that the film budget was more than P5 million.

The film is written and directed by Perry De Guzman, the ABS-CBN’s Ang Probinsyano fight director, and Jennylyn Delos Santos-Floresca, the Be Unrivaled Productions and Sine Cordillera director and executive producer.

According to De Guzman, the protagonists in the film are the ‘Igorots’ and the scenes show those that are not being displayed in Manila.

"With our rich culture, we have many stories to tell, and we want to give tribute to our Igorot talents and bring the message to the public to make them aware," director Floresca added.

The director shared that the film also intends to support the community, noting that the country is the number one supporter of those produced being in other countries such as “Korea novelas.”

“Also, if you could do something for your community and you are able to gather a set of champions, and you have the capability to secure that spirit and bring that possibility from the story, why not do it?” Jianlin said.

Other stars in the film are Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao; The Face of Sine Cordillera Dexter Jaimee Tampoa; Musician and Broadcast Journalist Peter Omaweng Wasing; 2018 Pinoy Got Talent finalist the Bardilleranz; Be Unrivaled Productions’ The Singing Mineros; Kidlat Tahimik, other Cordilleran talents; and Filipino-Briton actor and model Mark Phillip Neumann.
