La Trinidad, Benguet – It took the death of a 6-year-old girl for those concerned to cover the open canal and drainage system in La Trinidad.

In a report by Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation – MPBC, the drainage, where the girl was swept to her death, can be seen being covered with steel bar grating.

It was on a rainy afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 27, when the victim, while walking with her older sister along Sitio Pipingew of Barangay Lubas, slipped and was swept by the strong current of water brought about by the heavy downpour, then fell into the open concrete drainage.

The Technical Support Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15, along with Bureau of Fire Protection - La Trinidad, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and Barangay Officials, came to her rescue.

Responding personnel rushed the Grade 1 pupil to Benguet General Hospital but was declared dead.

The incident served as lesson such that concerned authorities finally covered the drainage.

“Very unfortunate a masapol nga adda maisagmak santo adda ti aksyon a mapasamak. Ayeh piman jay biyag ti ubing a naisakripisyo tapnu laeng mariing dagita maseknan a kunada tapnu agkuti,” a netizen commented.
