Kalinga, Philippines - With the opening of local businesses and the drive for economic recovery, a proposal has been put forward this September to help local businesses in Kalinga Province.

In a recent interview with Guru Press Cordillera, Kalinga Board Member Lester Lee Tarnate mentioned the possibility of crafting an ordinance that will prescribe local government units to allot a certain amount of the total procurement they have.

Thousands of local businesses are expected to benefit from the ordinance if ever it gets the nod of the council and the support of the municipalities and the City of the province.

The idea was discussed by Board Member Tarnate, DTI-Kalinga Provincial Director Renee Ramos, and other DTI-Kalinga officials, as a promising means to help promote locally produced goods and services.

“Mayat daytoy nga idea, mayat nga aramiden, ngem adalen tayo nga nalaing nu kaso tayo maipa-approve sadiay provincial council. I, for one, support our local businesses because they provide the greatest number of jobs in the province. We shall work hard to study it and make a legislation for its adaptation and implementation,” said Tarnate.

The board member added that while this is a good idea, he wants to encourage MSMEs to innovate and to widen their market, explaining that business will thrive when there is better product or service and more clients to serve.

“Ipapati tayo nga papintasen ti serbisyo ken kalidad ti produkto tayo tapno saan tayun to masapul nga agsapul ti kliyente, isudan to ti umay kania tayo,” said Tarnate.

Tarnate is the Committee Chairman of Tourism, Cooperative and Trade and Industry in the Kalinga Provincial Council.
