Over 200 hectares affected by forest fire in Itogon, Benguet


Itogon, Benguet - A forest fire is currently raging in the Cordillera mountains, particularly in Itogon Benguet.

Authorities said the forest fire already affected over 200 hectares.


The fire broke out December 22, 2022 and is currently being suppressed by authorities through a continued bambi bucket operations which started on the same date until December 24.


Operations stopped last Sunday, December 25, due to the inclement weather but were resumed Monday, December 26.


Apart from the bad weather, the stoppage of the operation was made for the maintenance of helicopters being utilized in the operation.


During the first operations, the Philippine Air Force Tactical Operations Group 1, along with personnel of the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council fetched volumes of water in Ambuklao Dam to stop the fire.

As it resumed on December 26, authorities started fetching at the Binga Dam using helicopters.


In a statement, CRDRRMC Chairperson and Office of the Civil Defense-Cordillera Regional Director Albert Mogol committed that the contingency plan of suppressing the forest fire in the said area will continue until it will be declared as fire under control.
