Over 323 fruit trees planted to fortify watersheds of 2 Barangays in Pudtol

Pudtol, Apayao – Over 323 rambutan and coffee seedlings were planted in the watershed’s areas in Barangays Cacalaggan and Malibang, Pudtol on Dec. 5, as an intervention initiative following the destruction of trees in town during the recent typhoons in Apayao.

These diverse range of fruit trees, according to the irrigators, enrich the local ecosystem and plays a critical role in maintaining water quality, preventing soil erosion, and supporting biodiversity.

Said tree replanting aligns with the restoration of Watershed Areas for Irrigation Systems (WAAIS) in said barangays to resolve agricultural challenges faced by farmers by enhancing water sustainability and ensure agricultural productivity.

Members of Apayao Irrigators participated in said activity.

In an interview with the irrigators, they said the project was a significant step to boost their livelihood and income, especially they that rely on the water supply of irrigation.

Moreover, the irrigators affirmed commitment to do their part by taking good care of the trees planted to benefit more farmers in the future.

Pudtol is known for its pristine rivers. Said town is also a recipient of the Rivers for Life Award this 2024 and in previous years.
