Tabuk City, Kalinga—Over one hundred senior citizens in Kalinga were given over P1.3 million cash gifts as a means to honor their contributions to society.

The distribution of the cash to the beneficiaries took place on Monday, April 21 at the Kalinga Provincial Capitol, led by the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Cluster 1 Commissioner Reymar Mansilungan and NCSC Program Development Officer Krista Bassig, in coordination with Provincial DSWD and other stakeholders.

Under the Republic Act No. 11982, otherwise known as the Expanded Centenarians Act of 2024, 117 senior citizens in the province were given P10,000 each. The recipients were ages 80, 85, 90, and 95.

Additionally, two centenarians from the municipalities of Tinglayan and Tanudan received P100,000 each, along with a Letter of Felicitation from the president.

As cited by the Philippine Information Agency-Kalinga, another round of payouts in the province is scheduled by NCSC in July for the next group of qualified recipients. iKalinga seniors or their families are encouraged to coordinate with their city or municipal social welfare and development offices to apply for the benefits.

Signed into law by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in 2024, the Expanded Centenarians Act aims to recognize and honor Filipino elderly for their contribution to the nation’s growth through decades of work, service, raising families, sharing values and stories that shape the younger generation, and preserving culture and history.

In its press release in February, NCSC announced plans to distribute over P2.9 billion in cash aid to approximately 275,000 senior citizens across the country this 2025.
