Sabangan, Mt. Province - Farmers in Sabangan, Mt. Province will soon have a better communal irrigation system (CIS) with the multi-million funding recently granted by the Department of Agriculture to the town.

The Sabangan CIS plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective distribution of water to the fields of the farmers in said municipality. The water is delivered through an extensive network of canals, with essential control structures such as weirs and dams in place to regulate the flow.

For better services to the farmers, the said CIS is set to be improved with the awarding of P155.3 million in funding from DA’s Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP). This improvement, as mentioned by the Sabangan Municipal Information Office, will start once the bidding process is done.

“These achievements mark a major milestone for Sabangan, proving that hard work and collaboration bring progress,” the LGU wrote.

Prior to the approval of the fund, the LGU, headed by Mayor Marcial Lawilao Jr., passed all the required project criteria before being given the green light by the DA on Wednesday, February 5.

Once the irrigation improves, the local farmers will be able to ensure a consistent water supply to their crops, which could result in higher crop yields and more income. It will also help minimize water shortages during the dry season, reducing the risk of crop damage and helping farmers avoid huge financial losses.

The approval of the fund, according to the LGU, brings hope for a brighter future to the farmers of Sabangan as it will improve their agricultural productivity and the overall well-being of the community.
