Over P19M Marijuana seized from runaway van in Kalinga

Tabuk City, Kalinga – While he was able to evade police checkpoint in Lubuagan, a man was arrested by Kalinga police in Tabuk City after suspected marijuana bricks and tubular were discovered in a van he was driving.

Tabuk police on Monday, Oct. 23, received a call from PNP Lubuagan, notifying them of a vehicle with plate number MGO 777 that eluded their checkpoint situated at Dinakan, Dangoy, Lubuagan.

Acting on the report, authorities immediately launched a hot pursuit operation, and they were able to nab the suspect in Calanan, Tabuk City.

Police likewise searched the vehicle the accused was driving, and there they found 156 marijuana bricks and 20 marijuana tubular packs.

Said contraband weighed 166 kilograms, and these amount to P19,920,000.

It was found out that the suspect is a resident of Block 3, Lot 33, Benitez Subdivision, Concepcion Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija.

The van, which was also taken by police in the meantime, was said to be registered under the name of a certain Jaime Viloria Lomboy.

The accused is now under police custody and will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Law of 2002, particularly the provision on the illegal transport of prohibited drugs.

As for the confiscated pieces of evidence, they were brought to the Tabuk City police station and are up for turnover to the Kalinga Crime Laboratory.

“We will be conducting further investigation, particularly on this, to determine the scope of the operation of the suspect and the network of distribution if there are other groups behind this, and importantly, to identify their supplier of said marijuana,” Kalinga Police Provincial Director Freddie Lazona said in a statement.
