Over P2M worth of seized cigarettes, vapes in Baguio destroyed

Baguio City, Philippines - The city government of Baguio took another step towards promoting a healthier environment to the public through a ceremonial destruction and disposal of confiscated cigarettes and electronic cigarettes or vapes worth more than P2 million.

Led by the city’s Health Services Office (CHSO) officials, the event was held on Thursday, August 8, at Malcolm Square, Baguio City.

As cited by the Baguio City Information Office, the activity was conducted to raise awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco products.

The P2 million worth of cigarettes and vapes were seized by the CHSO - Smoke-Free Task Force from schools and illegal vendors over the past years.

As per DENR guidelines on hazardous waste management, the destroyed items have been properly disposed by the health officials, along with other attendees.

During the activity, Committee on Health and Sanitation Chairperson Betty Lourdes Tabanda, reminded the residents to work together and cooperate with the LGU’s anti-smoking policies to make Baguio a smoke-free city.

“Let us breathe Baguio, stop smoking, and stop vaping,” Tabanda remarked.
