P.5M drainage in Pangol, Tanudan to save crops from possible flooding

Updated: Jun 10, 2022

Tanudan, Kalinga – Farmers in Baccong, Pangol will worry less about their crops being submerged in flood during the rainy season with the recent completion of a drainage canal in the area.

The drainage canal was completed third week of May. The P500,000.00 funding came from the 20% Development Fund of the Tanudan Local Government Unit for Fiscal Year 2022.

According to Municipal Engineer Mike Tongnawa, the said project is among the needs of the farmers in Baccong, Pangol since the area gets easily flooded.

He recounted that the farmers in the place used to plant rice; however, their main irrigation canal was destroyed by Typhoon Rosita forcing them to shift to planting corn.

Somehow even after cultivating corn, flooding remains to be the problem as the creek in the area overflows when it rains.

“Talaga nga kitak iman ket dagiay taltalon da nu dumakkel diay waig nu agtudo ngay … ket diay danum magna idiay waig santu dumakkel, i-flood na amin diay taltalon ta kasla ngay nga awan iti pagnaan na,” he described.

With the drainage canal, the floodwater can be diverted instead of going directly to the corn field.

In a statement, Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag conveyed that among his priorities during his first term as the local chief executive of Tanudan is to provide funding to the identified projects that will address the immediate need of the community.

“Kasla kuma dayta Baccong canal lining ket kailangan da nga talaga dayta ta medyo malaylayus piman diay ayan da nu napigsa tudo ket inikkan tayo nga dagus ti importansya.

Daytoy 20% share ko as local chief executive ti municipality ket talaga nga maipan amin ti pagsayaatan ken pagmayatan ti tattao ken bumarangay,” he expressed.

Dagadag assured the public that the Municipal Engineering Office is closely monitoring the implementation of every project and that there is an inspectorate team of the Tanudan LGU that makes sure every project is properly completed.
