Piat, Cagayan – A P500,000 reward is being offered to anyone who can provide information that can lead to the arrest of the killer of multi-awarded barangay captain, Richard Biraquit.

The barangay official was murdered on January 23 while heading home with his wife after visiting their farm at Sitio Malasat, Sto. Domingo.

His wife survived the incident after pretending to be dead while she waited for the gunman to flee the scene using a motorcycle.

She managed to bring her husband to a nearby hospital but Biraquit was declared dead on arrival at the health facility.

To hasten the investigation of the case, Piat Mayor first offered a P100,000 bounty, while Governor Manuel Mamba during the necrological service of Beraquit told the victim’s family he will be allotting P400,000 as a reward money, as relayed by Cagayan Information Office on Friday, February 3.

“He was an exemplar. He was a hero. Idol ko ito. Let his principle be alive. Yes, his body may be gone, but let his principle be a victor. Ipagpapatuloy natin ang kanyang paninindigan. Huwag hayaang magtagumpay ang sinomang gumawa nito sa kanya,” Mamba said.

As of press time, a cartographic sketch of the suspect’s face was already drafted by authorities, which may serve as a tool in determining his identity.
