P.8M fuel discount given to 289 corn farmers, fishers in Kalinga

Tabuk City, Kalinga – To cushion the impact of oil price hike in the province, some 289 corn farmers and fisherfolks in Kalinga were given on Thursday, June 09, 2022 fuel discount cards amounting to P867,000.

Each beneficiary was granted P3,000 worth one-time fuel discount from the Department of Agriculture. The assistance is intended for the farmers’ machinery used in corn production from land preparation to postharvest activities.

Agriculturist II Roselda Dumayag of the Office of the Provincial Agricultural Services (OPAS) disclosed that 130 of the recipients are from Rizal, 66 from Pinukpuk, 63 from Tabuk, 23 from tanudan, six from Pasil, and one from Balbalan.

Who are qualified for the fuel subsidy?

The fishermen-beneficiaries are those registered under FishR System and BoatR Program, and must own or use a motorized boat with not more than three-ton capacity.

Meanwhile, qualified corn farmers are those listed in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) and the Farmers and Fisherfolk Registry System (FFRS). The beneficiary must also own machinery with proof of ownership.

How do beneficiaries use their discount card?

Dumayag explained the beneficiaries shall receive a text message from the Universal Storefront Services Corporation (USSC), informing them that the assistance has been deposited to their discount card.

According to the Agriculturist, it may take one to two weeks from the day of receipt of their cash cards for the farmers and fishers to get the text message.

After receiving the message, the recipients should bring with them their discount card and proceed to accredited fuel stations, either at Petron Wangdali in Laya East and Dagupan or at Total Magsaysay.

“In case na representative ang mag-claim ng fuel nila, kailangan may authorization letter, at ID ng may-ari ng card at ID ng representative,” said Dumayag.
