P1.3M assistance given to PWDs in Kalinga

Tabuk City, Kalinga – From the year 2021 to the first semester of 2022, the Provincial Government of Kalinga under the administration of Governor Ferdinand Tubban provided a total of P1,390,000 assistance to persons with disabilities in Tabuk City and all the municipalities in the province.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) reported this during the 2022 First Semester Meeting of the Provincial Federation of Persons with Disabilities (PFPWD) held today, March 29, at Davidson Hotel, Bulanao Tabuk City.

Focal Person Jenina Ruth Bangelan noted that in 2021, around 31 recipients were granted P150,000 worth of Assistance for Physical Restoration (APR), a service designed to help PWDs who lacks financial resources to attain maximum improvements of their physical residual capacities to facilitate integration to family and community life.

Meantime, P100,000 was allotted for the educational assistance of 29 PWD-beneficiaries.

For the first semester of 2022, an amount of P1,140,000 was provided to the 380 recipients of financial assistance.

Bangelan relates that the assistance was given based on allotted slots and the respective MSWD’s performance.

The beneficiaries were identified by the MSWDOs before their names were submitted to the PSWDO. The screening was done by giving priority to the totally dependent and mentally ill.

During the event, members of the federation have also undergone orientation on Functionality Assessment Tool and RA 7277otherwise known as the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, which was enacted for the primary reason that persons with disabilities have the same rights as other people.

Updates on Programs and Services Intended for PWD, PWD Financial Assistance Concerns, and Plans for NDPR 2022 were likewise discussed during the meeting.
