P1 jeepney fare hike starts Oct. 8

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A P1.00 fare increase for public jeepneys in the country will take effect on Sunday, Oct. 08, 2023.

The fare hike is both for modern and traditional jeepneys in the Philippines.

The increase came after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the petition of transport groups to increase the fare of jeeps in the country for them to cope with the high fuel prices.

Said petition initially asked for a P5.00 fare increase for the first four kilometers of travel and P1.00 for the rest of the kilometers.

The LTFRB who heard the appeal on Oct. 03 only granted the P1.00 provisional hike, making the minimum fare for traditional jeepneys P13.00 and P15.00 for modern jeeps.

LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III reminds drivers, operators, and commuters to follow the assigned date for the observance of the transport cost increase.
