P13M bridge in Balbalan, Kalinga inaugurated

Balbalan, Kalinga – Residents and travelers of the Municipality of Balbalan will now have easier means of transport following the inauguration of the P13 million worth Dao-angan Bridge on January 12, 2023.

The 20-meter-long bridge is anticipated to increase local economic activity and provide an alternative route for travelers.

John Reb Malannag, Mayor Almar Malannag's executive assistant, told Guru Press Cordillera that the said bridge assures a safer and accessible path to locals and travelers from nearby barangay and municipalities.

“Hindi na kami tatawid sa river, lalo na kapag rainy season. Itong bridge ay malaking tulong sa mga travelers, mga mag-travel ng gamit at mga produkto. Itong bridge din na ito ay magsisilbing alternate route ng Tabuk-Pasil-Balbalan road. Nu close diyay, siyempre ti kaasidegan nga alternate route tayo ket daytoy bridge tapos mapan Pinukpuk,” Malannag conveyed.

The project was funded through the Department of Public Works and Highways 2020 General Appropriation Act, according to Engineer Teddy Owek of DPWH-Upper Kalinga District.

The construction of said bridge started on October 2020 and was completed on October 2021.

Engr. Owek explained that due to the restrictions during the height of the pandemic, the inauguration of the project was only held this year.

Meantime, on his Facebook page, Malannag expressed his gratefulness to the solon of the province and DPWH for funding the project.

“May this project sustain economic growth as we bridge our barangays toward progress through road accessibilities for the people,” he stated.
