Tabuk City, Kalinga – The P14.9 million worth Malaggan Small Water Impounding Project (SWIP) is now serving about 15-hectare rice land of Balong village in Tabuk City, Kalinga following the facility’s blessing and inauguration on February 20, 2023.

According to Provincial Agriculturist Engr. Domingo Bakilan, the facility measuring 97.50 meters in length, 15 meters in height, and 12 meters in width was constructed across a narrow depression to hold back water and develop a reservoir that will store rainfall and run-off during the rainy season for immediate or future use of the rice farmers within the area.

With an overall cost of P14,984,523.93, the SWIP was funded under the Rice Program of the Department of Agriculture and was implemented by the provincial government.

Gracing the ceremonial inauguration on Monday were Governor James Edduba, Bakilan himself, Councilor Samuel Sumaal representing the City Mayor, and Regional Executive Director of DA-Cordillera Cameron P. Odsey, among others.

Also inaugurated on the same day was the Ammalingan Solar Powered Irrigation System (SPIS) in Cudal, Tabuk which will irrigate about 10-hectare land in the area. The project is funded under the Corn Program of the regional agricultural department.
