Bangued, Abra - Farmers in Abra are set to receive P167 million worth of agricultural assistance from the Department of Agriculture - Cordillera these coming days as a means to help them further boost their rice production.

The agency, represented by Regional Director Jennilyn Dawayan, made this announcement at the Abrenian Kawayan Festival’s Fair, which took place in Bangued, Abra from March 4-9, 2025.

In her message at the event's opening program, Dawayan stated that the funding is not just about providing support to the farmers but also aims to recognize their hard work and the province’s rich agricultural potential.

“This funding will support farm input and incentives for agricultural workers who are providing technical assistance. We also support the katutubo. We continue to empower the Indigenous People's organizations, giving them the tools to improve their livelihood,” she added, as quoted by the PIA-Abra.

Abra, apart from being the leading producer of fruits, is also a major contributor to rice production in Cordillera, supplying a significant portion of the region's palay household stocks.

According to the latest report from the Philippine Statistics Authority, the province contributed about 23 percent (76,921 metric tons) to the total palay production in the region in 2022, making it the second-largest contributor, with Kalinga leading at 34 percent (114,805 metric tons).

Thus, the funding from the DA-CAR will further strengthen the agricultural sector of the province, providing the Abrenian farmers the support they need, such as modern farm machinery, rice seeds, and fertilizers, among others.
