P18.8M traffic fines collected in Baguio from Jan.- July 2023

Baguio City, Philippines - The local government of Baguio has collected around P18.8 million in traffic violation fines from January 01 - July 21, 2023, the City Public Information Office disclosed Wednesday, August 16.


Said amount of collection was based on the clearances issued by the Baguio City Police Office - Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU).

From a total of 54,543 traffic rule breaches, the agency, represented by Police Major Zacarias Dausen, revealed that the violation of the Vehicle Number Coding Scheme had topped the list with a total of 15,679 cases.


Implemented through City Ordinance Number 01 series of 2003, the Number Coding Scheme is a program that restricts both private and public utility vehicles in the city from traversing the roads based on the latest digit of the vehicle's license plate. This scheme is enforced during weekdays.


Data from the agency further showed that Road Obstructions came in second with 10,874 cases, followed by illegal parking with 9,127.

Other cases are a violation of traffic police instructions with 5,671 apprehensions, disregarding traffic signs-5,240, motorcycle ban- 1,563, reckless driving-870, driving without license-790, failure to use a seat belt-713, and truck ban by 621.


In connection, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, recently, pushed the “single ticketing system,” an ordinance that intends to harmonize existing national and local laws on traffic enforcement as well as to establish an effective transport and traffic management system in the city.
