P2.2M footbridge replacement of Tanudan ‘monkey bridge’ 99% complete

Tanudan, Kalinga―There will be no more hustle and bustle experience for the residents in crossing the Tanudan River with the newly constructed hanging bridge in Barangay Dacalan, Tanudan.

The PhP2.2 million worth footbridge replaces the age-old “monkey bridge” connecting Barangay Dacalan to the main motorway.

Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag pursued to work out for its funding saying, “Karaman daytoy ti most priority tayo tapnu mayat pagnaan ti taga Dacalan ken dagiti mapan bumisita a taga Tanudan idiay Dacalan.”

Dagadag said they were able to make a way to get a budget from the 20% of the development fund share from the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA).

“Dagitoy nga accomplishments ket para ti ili a Tanudan, sapay kuma ta ituloy yu a suportaran dagitoy arapap aap tayo tapnu iti kasta ket maituloy amin nga plano ti pagsayaatan ti ili tayo,” he expressed.

The bridge will serve as the roadway of the yTanudan and tourists to numerous tourism destinations, which include the Silent Mountain, Matabor, Abaca, Payao, Masinglit, Tarwi-ig, and Atang falls.

It can be recalled that a suspension bridge with large main cables was previously installed from the allocation of Office of the Congressman.

However, due to Typhoon Rosita in 2018, a flooding incident damaging the footbridge, leaving only the two single cable wires which were then used by the residents to cross the river, dubbing it as ‘monkey bridge’.

As of now, the installment of the cable sidings of the footbridge will be finished by next week.
