P2.9M DSWD aid benefits 24 families in Kalinga

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Twenty-four families in Kalinga Province were given assistance ranging from P27,650 - P40,000 as part of the Balik-Probinsya, Bagong Pag-Asa, the Department of Social Welfare Development- Cordillera told Sunday, June 12, 2022.

The Balik-Probinsya, Bagong Pag-Asa (BP2) program of the national government provides mechanisms to allow families to go back to their respective provinces to create balanced regional development and equitable distribution of wealth, resources, and opportunities.

Of the 24 beneficiaries in Kalinga, 22 are from the municipality of Lubuagan, while 2 are from Pasil.

In a press release, BP2P focal Cristopher Daoyen said the assistance was given to beneficiaries on June 6-10, 2022 in various parts of the province.

The assistance covers food and non-food items needed by the family as they settle in their hometown.

DSWD-Kalinga explained the transitory family support assistance given varies in amount as the program takes into account the number of family members and current living situations assessed by registered social workers.

In the Cordillera, the agency disclosed that a total of P2,946,900 was already disbursed to its qualified recipients.

Other beneficiaries in the Cordillera include 19 from Sabangan and 5 in Sadanga for Mt. Province, 13 from Conner Apayao, while for Abra, 6 are from Bucay, 3 from Tubo, 2 from Lagangilang, and 1 from Bangued.

Who are qualified for the program?

Eligible beneficiaries of the program include those negatively impacted by government projects and legal demolition activities, those living on the street or in danger zones, victims of human-induced or natural disasters, individuals who lost employment or income opportunities, and informal settlers.

Those belonging to the marginalized, disadvantaged, or vulnerable sectors hoping to start anew may also avail of the program.

If they think their family is qualified to avail, DSWD-CAR said they may register at www.balikprobinsya.ph or contact their Local Social Welfare and Development Office (LSWDO).
