P29 per kilo rice available in Kalinga this October 9

Tabuk City, Kalinga – After its launching in Benguet last month, the National Irrigation Administration - Cordillera is bringing the P29 per kilogram rice in Kalinga this Wednesday, October 9.

The rice to be sold will be displayed at the NIA Kalinga Irrigation Management Office in Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga.

Called the Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka (BBM) rice, the commodity is packed in 10-kilogram sack to provide more people with it.

It will also prioritize elderlies, physically challenged individuals, solo parents, and members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). Thus, in order to avail of the rice, buyers need to present documents proving that they are part of said vulnerable sectors.

These include senior citizen’s ID, PWD ID, Solo parent ID, and 4Ps ID. Stubs shall be utilized in the selling of the rice. When buying, customers shall receive stubs they will use in claiming the rice they bought at the releasing area.

The production of said rice, according to the agency, was a result of NIA’s partnership with irrigators associations in the region through the implementation of contract farming.

The scheme involved the provision of P50,000 worth of farm inputs and cash to farmers who agreed to take part in the scheme per one-hectare field in a cropping season.

During the harvest season, NIA buys the rice at P50,000 each for 5 tons of fresh palay per hectare. The harvest will be milled eventually and sold to selected sites and KADIWA stores.

On their Facebook page, NIA-Cordillera announced that said rice shall also be sold soon in other provinces.

“Manatili pong nakaantabay sa NIA Cordillera facebook page para sa iba pang schedule ng Kadiwa ng Pangulo at Murang Bigas @ P29/kg sa ibang probinsiya ng rehiyon,” they wrote.
