Rizal, Kalinga – The long-running problem on lack of irrigation system in Barangay Santor shall now be addressed with the construction of the P 4,500,000-worth of Solar Irrigation Pump after the ground breaking ceremony held on Friday, May 7, 2021.

The funding of the said Solar Irrigation Pump was sourced out from the initiative fund of Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang thru National Irrigation Administration for Fiscal Year 2021.

Department of Agrarian Reform-Kalinga Information Officer Judith Longid said the solar project shall be serving 47 farmers who are members of Alimit-Santor Irrigators Association, one of those organizations being assisted by the agency.

The project is expected to be completed after 170 days and will irrigate 18.75 hectares of dry land owned by members of said association.

“Santor community lacks irrigation system coming from hydro-powered electricity. Kulang sa tubig ang Santor that hinders many of them (farmers) to make their land productive,” Longid pointed out.

Funding of the project

The project is funded by the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program-Irrigation component and its implementation is carried out by the National Irrigation Administration. The agency together with the Provincial Agrarian Reform Coordinating Committee (PARCCOM) will take charge of the monitoring.

According to Longid, the aim to establish the solar project in the area was realized after the members of the benefiting association forged a resolution requesting for its construction to solve their problem on irrigation facility.

During the ceremony, Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Adela Damaso advised the recipients to “start dreaming for the future of their land” now that the project reached them.

"With the coming of the solar irrigation project, it is foreseen that the once barren land will turn into a paradise where every farmer reach out for food", Damaso said, adding that the project shall serve as a showcase for some areas which suffer the same problem.

Meantime, Longid disclosed that various solar power pump projects are also being established in many areas in the province.

“Adda maysa diay Liwan which is for turn-over ta nalpasen, maysa diay ammacian for inspection nu mabalin maturn-over ken maysa diay Pinococ ngem for validation diay site nga pakaipatakderan na,” Longid stated.
