Tabuk City, Kalinga – An ordinance seeking to give a monthly honorarium of P500 to Sangguniang Kabataan officers was approved on first reading during the Regular Session of the Tabuk City Sangguniang Panlungsod Council on Thursday, August 26, 2021.

Recognizing the role of the youth in the development of the city, Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president Henry Tubban Jr. proposed said ordinance to benefit SK officers to include SK Kagawads, SK Secretaries and SK Treasurers.

In a statement, he said that the proposed ordinance signifies the city local government’s commendation for the hard work of the young officials and that their roles in governance are being taken seriously.

“It is a signal that the city [government] recognizes the role of the SK… that we take them seriously,” he stated.

Under RA 10742 or the SK Reform Act of 2015, the SK Chairperson is the sole official to get an honorarium among SK officers, which is equivalent to the honorarium of the members of the barangay council.

Through the resolution, the local lawmaker expects that SKs will perform better in their sworn duties as public officials and be a vital instrument in good governance.

“Agtrabaho da kuma a nasayaat, perform their mandated duties and responsibilities and actively promote the welfare of the youth in their respective barangays,” Tubban added.

When passed as an ordinance, the City Local Government Unit of Tabuk shall allocate P2,322,000 annually to be used solely in the implementation of the ordinance.
