P5M evacuation center erected in Pinococ, Pinukpuk

Pinukpuk, Kalinga - In addition to schools, yKalingas residing in Pinococ, Pinukpuk, will now have temporary shelter during disasters as an evacuation center has been constructed in the area, ready to house people in need.

The evacuation center had its inauguration on Tuesday, January 16, attended by municipal and provincial officials led by Governor James S. Edduba.

Alongside the inauguration is the handing over by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG-Kalinga) of the key of responsibility to the provincial government for the proper use and maintenance of the building.

Accepting the role is Governor Edduba, who also served as the guest of honor and speaker during the program.

In his speech, the governor acknowledged the role of DILG-Kalinga in the erection of the building in the area.

He then expressed his gratitude and noted how important the center is to the barangay, particularly during typhoons and other disasters.

Funded with an amount of P5 million, its construction started in May last year and was completed in January this year.

The erection of the said building was made possible through funding under the Financial Assistance to Local Government Units (FALGU).

FALGU, as conveyed by the Department of Interior and Local Government, Kalinga, is a program under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) that directly provides financial assistance to LGUs in supporting their programs and projects needed in the delivery of basic services.

Aside from evacuation centers, other projects covered under LGSF-FALGU include local roads, bridges, public markets, slaughterhouses, multi-purpose buildings, multi-purpose pavements, drainage canals, river walls, water system projects including level 1 stand-alone water points, public parks, fish ports, and post-harvest facilities like ice plants and cold storage facilities.
