P6.4B quake rehabilitation and recovery fund in Cordillera sought

Baguio City, Philippines – The Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council is seeking more than P6 billion in funds for the rehabilitation and recovery program for areas affected by the powerful earthquake that rocked parts of Northern Luzon on July 27.


In the Special Full Council Meeting conducted on Tuesday, September 27, the Regional DRRMC approved an investment requirement of P6,485,210,000 for the implementation of said program from 2022-2024.

Of the total amount, the P4,564,310,000 or 70.3% will be allocated for Abra province; P1,550,170,000 or 23.9% for Mountain Province; P121,890,000 for Benguet; P114,990,000 for Baguio City; P93,150,000 for Kalinga; P34,450,000 for Ifugao; and P9,840,000 for Apayao.


In terms of sector, around P2.23 billion will be for housing, P1.69 billion for social services, and P1.63 billion are for infrastructure, informed the Philippine Information Agency in the region.


According to Civil Defense Cordillera, the funding will be sourced out from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (NDRRMF), and from the regular budget of National Line Agencies and Local Government Units.

The program is expected to aid the 410,416 quake-affected individuals in the 601 barangays of the region.


The Cordillera DRRMC-approved fund will be presented and submitted to the National DRRM Council.
