P600M aid granted to thousands of farmers, fisherfolks in Cordillera

Baguio City, Philippines – The Department of Agriculture allocated more than P600 million pesos worth of financial assistance and livelihood interventions to thousands of farmers and fisherfolks in the region this year.


Of the said amount, P61.5 million was awarded on Tuesday, June 28 during a turn-over ceremony at the DA-CAR compound in Baguio City, with Agricultural Secretary William Dar and DA-CAR Regional Director Cameron Odsey leading the event.

The agency likewise granted P450 million to 90,000 farmers in the region.


The cash assistance will be distributed to qualified rice farmers under the Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA) program with each receiving P5,000.


For the Fuel subsidy program, around 1,800 corn farmers and fisherfolks will be getting their share of P3,000 each from the P5.4 million cash assistance allocated for them.


Meantime, a P5.5M grant will be given to each of the qualified Civil Service Organizations (CSOs) / Farmer Cooperative and Associations (FCAs) under the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) program.

The total budget for this amounts to P167 million. For the Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita program, P4.9 million will be given to its beneficiaries.


The grant will be used to buy delivery vehicles and construction of consolidating facilities, while part of it will be utilized as market assistance for various KADIWA activities and trade fairs.


P1.5 million grant under the Young Farmers Challenge Program was also turned over for the procurement of processing supplies and agricultural inputs.
