PAG-ASA to establish weather-observing station in Kalinga

Tabuk City, Kalinga - To further enhance disaster response in the province, a Surface Synoptic (SYNOP) Station will soon be established in Kalinga by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).


This information was announced by the personnel of PAG-ASA who visited the office of Governor James Edduba recently.


A SYNOP station, as described by the agency, is where weather is monitored through the use of modern technologies. These weather monitoring technologies collect and report meteorological data, such as temperature, pressure, wind, and precipitation, at specific times.


The data gathered is used for weather forecasting and climate studies.


The establishment of said facility in Kalinga is part of PAGASA's Modernization Plan and Capacity Building efforts for Northern Luzon, under the leadership of Regional Director Engr. Leo L. Buñag.


According to report of the province's Information Office this March 17, the project was first presented to Governor Edduba in 2023. The station, which has received construction approval this 2025, will be built at Mt. Talama, Tabuk City.


Governor Edduba, as mentioned by Kalinga PIO, assured his complete support for the initiative, acknowledging the station’s vital importance in enhancing disaster preparedness and safeguarding iKalingas in times of calamities.
