PAGCOR allots P50M for Pasil evacuation center

Updated: Oct 6, 2021

Pasil, Kalinga – The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) granted the request of the local government of Pasil to allot P50 million pesos for the construction of a multi-purpose evacuation center at Barangay Dangtalan.

On August 31, the first tranche amounting to P25 million was turned over by PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Andrea Domingo to Municipal Treasurer Estemson Barcellano, Councilor Leonardo Banatao, and MDRRMO Marilyn Pagutayao.

A report from Pasil LGU states that when the amount is fully liquidated based on physical accomplishment, the P25 million for the 2nd tranche will be downloaded.

Resolution Request of Pasil LGU

The Pasil Municipal Development Council Pasil under the leadership of Mayor Alfredo Malannag Jr., forwarded on March 2021 Municipal Resolution No. 2021-29 requesting for said funding to the PAGCOR CEO.

The resolution cited the need to establish an evacuation center to provide a safer site to protect the growing population during weather disturbances and other emergency situations. The center is also designed as a multi-purpose building convenient for other purposes, such as assembly considering the lack of available space in the municipality.

The resolution also stated that the people of Barangay Dangtalan had been clamoring for an evacuation center, but could not be funded by the local government due to meager resources, thus it was listed for fund sourcing in the annual investment plan.

PAGCOR, in their press release, recognized Pasil as a place rich in greenery and natural wonders. However, it is often battered by natural disasters such as typhoons and sometimes earthquakes. During these circumstances, locals often seek shelter in the town’s municipal hall such that the request for fund was granted.

Officials then expressed gratitude to PAGCOR for granting their request.

According to Malannag, the fund will go a long way, especially in protecting the lives of the vulnerable communities that are always placed at great risk in times of calamities and disasters. The evacuation center, he added, would provide safe emergency shelter before the disaster strikes.

Pasil resident Alonzo Saclag Jr., who was also present during the turnover said that having a permanent evacuation center would spare them the difficulty of seeking refuge in other towns during emergency situations.
